Small Rectangular Grid Ashtray vs Montecristo Triangular: Which Fits?

Quick answer

Choose the Small Rectangular Grid Ashtray if you smoke alone on a small balcony or side table and want a compact, low-cost rest. Choose the Montecristo Triangular 1 Ashtray if you regularly host two or three smokers or want a genuine Habanos accessory as a centerpiece.

Size and footprint: what each shape demands of your table

The Small Rectangular Grid Ashtray measures 7 by 3 by 2 3/8 inches, so it runs long and narrow. That profile suits a balcony rail shelf, a narrow side table, or the arm of a patio chair where a round or wide ashtray would crowd your drink.

The Montecristo Triangular 1 Ashtray uses a triangular footprint, which is efficient for its three-cigar capacity but still takes up more visual and physical space than the grid model. On a crowded coffee table, the triangle reads as a deliberate centerpiece rather than a utility item.

Capacity and smoking style: solo sessions vs shared smokes

The grid pattern on the rectangular ashtray holds a single cigar securely between smokes, which is what most solo smokers need. It also accepts cigarettes, so it doubles as a general-purpose table ashtray for mixed company.

The Montecristo holds up to three cigars at once. That matters when friends smoke together and want a shared rest, but for one person it means more empty slots and a larger object to store or clean. Neither ashtray's listing specifies a lid, so both are open rests rather than odor-sealing designs.

Material and brand character: utility vs Habanos accessory

The rectangular grid ashtray comes from Just Cigars and is positioned as a compact everyday piece. Its catalog price of USD 37.77 against a USD 59.95 comparison price makes it the lower-commitment option if you are outfitting a balcony or a second smoking spot.

The Montecristo is an authentic Habanos ashtray, currently offered at USD 166.95 against a USD 265.00 comparison price. You are paying for the brand association and the triangular design as much as for function. If you want a plain workhorse, that premium is hard to justify; if you enjoy Montecristo as a brand, the piece earns its place.

Trade-offs to weigh before you buy

• Space vs capacity: The grid ashtray saves table space but holds one cigar; the Montecristo holds three but needs a larger, more central spot. Measure your table before choosing capacity over footprint.
• Price vs brand: The grid model costs far less and covers everyday smoking; the Montecristo costs more and adds Habanos branding and a distinctive shape. Decide whether the brand premium is part of the purchase for you.
• Solo vs shared use: Buy the grid ashtray if you almost always smoke alone; buy the Montecristo if guests regularly join and you want one shared rest. Count how many smokers typically share your space.
